26/03/2009Bob the Builder
Students from four of the various Dundee Campus's helped raise £470.00 for 'Bob the Builder' in aid of the Malindi fundraising project in Kenya.

The theme "Bob the Builder" was chosen to represent "buy a brick and build a school". Todate, progress on the School building is going well (please see the www.churchontheway.net website for update).

A group of volunteers from COTW (Church on the Way), lead by Pastor Eddie Henderson and his wife Trina are going out to Malindi, Kenya in July 2009 where they will hand over all fundraising money collected throughout the year.

We wish everyone a safe journey.

A big thank you to all who donated at the various Dundee Campus's.
Luke 6:35 - "But be loving to those who are against you and do them good, and give them your money, not giving up hope, and your reward will be great and you will be the sons of the Most High: for he is kind to evil men, and to those who have hard hearts. "
Yours sincerely,

12/02/2009Malindi Project
As seen from the photograph, progress is being made on the first building and slowly but surely the two teams who worked on the project have really achieved much. God has been so good to us and has already opened up a door to make it possible to take another building team out to Malindi in July 2009 (proposed dates 10-24 July), so plans are underway to look into booking flights etc. for the twelve members of the team (8 from Ireland and 4 from Scotland).

Each team member has to pay their own costs, flights, accommodation etc., which comes to about £1,000 per person. We now need to raise finance for the continued work on the building and we have set the target at £5,000 which will help us purchase further building materials needed to advance the building work significantly.

Elaine Billen (Shop4Life MD’s wife) is one of the COTW members who is going to Malindi in July and has already contributed to the fundraising via a "Shark Dive" which raised £1,000 together with a quiz night which was held at "The Fort Bar", Broughty Ferry and raised a further £331. A good time was had by all attendees.

Future Fundraising Events Planned (COTW):
* 27th February 2009 - Disco karaoke night will be held at "The Gaiety Bar", Charlestown, Dundee - CANCELLED.
* 23rd March 2009 - "Buy a brick and build a school" fundraising day at all five campuses of Dundee College. Students from Dundee College will be collecting funds for the Malindi Project by dressing-up as "Bob the Builder" and selling signed "bricks" to the staff and students.
* 31st March 2009 - Ladies Night at "The Dome", Blairgowrie. This will be an opportunity for ladies to get together for a chat, wine, snacks and to buy from a range of products (jewellery, scarves, make-up etc). There will also be a "Silent Auction" with all funds raised going to the Malindi Project. The night starts at 7.30pm, all ladies are welcome.
James 1:27 - "What God the Father considers to be pure and genuine religion is this: to take care of orphans and widows in their suffering and to keep oneself from being corrupted by the world."

27/12/2008Swim with Sharks
Dr Elaine Billen (Shop4Life MD's wife) risks all in aid of swimming with sharks on her charity fundraising day out at Deep Sea World, North Queensferry, Scotland in December 2008.

Elaine is a regular member of Church on the Way (www.churchontheway.net) where she has now been given the role of fundraising co-ordinator for the church.

The swimming with sharks was her way of achieving a fundraising event for COTW's Malindi Project (building of a school/meeting place for the street children of Malindi) in Kenya, Africa.

Elaine's swim with sharks helped achieve fundraising of £1,000.

Well done Elaine.
Isaiah 25:11 - "And he shall spread forth his hands in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth spreadeth forth his hands to swim: and he shall bring down their pride together with the spoils of their hands. "

23/12/2008Shop4Life’s Charity of the Year is Erskine (Caring for ex-Service men and women)
As an ex-Serviceman himself, Erskine holds a special place in Steve’s (Managing Director) heart. We at Shop4Life are all too aware of the sacrifice, contribution, dedication and bravery of all our Armed Forces; and our aim is to fully support Erskine in any way that we can.

Who are Erskine ? (Charity Registration No SC006609)

Founded in 1916, Erskine has provided nursing and medical care for former members of our Armed Forces through two world wars and the more recent conflicts and peace keeping initiatives of the twentieth and twenty first centuries.

Re-building shattered lives, restoring dignity and providing first class care to ex-Service men and women both young and old have been the cornerstones on which Erskine has built an unrivalled reputation. Over 70,000 have been cared for by Erskine and demographics indicate there is demand for places up to at least 2020.

Colonel Martin Gibson, Erskine's Chief Executive says; "At Erskine we focus on people's abilities rather than their loss of abilities, and donations ensure that we can continue to provide a quality of life to veterans who have served their country regardless of age. Every donation, whatever the amount, makes a big difference, and every penny goes towards creating a homely environment for brave men and women who have helped to preserve our way of life."
1 Corinthians 13:4 - "Charity is patient, is kind: charity envieth not, dealeth not perversely; is not puffed up;"
